Name and Location:
Simple-Trends by Nicole Brecht from Carver, MN
What do you make?
Recycled wool mittens lined with fleece, Children’s Mittens with double layer of fleece. The newest twist is there are mittens with mermaid reversible sequins on them. I also have headbands for your hardest workout or bad hair day. Simple-trends headbands will get you out the door looking good or tackle the hardest workouts and not leave you with sweat in your eyes.
How did you get started? Who inspired you?
I started with headbands 9 years ago and have added mittens in the last 4 years. The bling mittens started last year in November. I started with making headbands for myself and friends wanting them. Soon their friends wanted some and off I started. Mittens were similar as my mom and I wanted a fun craft to make. Now we are sewing 50-100 pair of mittens per week starting in June.
What is your favorite part of what you do?
It is flexible so I can spend time with my 3 kids when they need me. I also love crafting but when I get to see how happy people are with their purchases it makes it all worth it. It is always nice running into someone that has purchased something from me and they remember me and enjoy their purchases.
What is the least favorite part of your maker process?
My house is always full of sequins. When you work with sequins and cut them, half the sequin flies somewhere. Sequins often stick on me to land on my floor somewhere in my house. We just call our house sparkly!! My neighbor’s child ask if we had a sequin bomb go off in our house!!
A day in the life of making what you do?
I usually start with cutting wool or fleece early before anyone else is up. Once everyone is out the door, I sew for the day. I love when I get a chance to go looking for new wool. The adventure is always exciting.
What do you enjoy doing when you are not busy making?
I love to be with my family or to work out. Seems like this time of year I get less and less workouts in with the fun holiday show schedule.
