Name and location:
Ellen Aeling from Oakdale, Minnesota
What do you make?
I make glass creations - fused glass, stain glass and glass mosaics. I love to combine these pieces with wire wrapping.
How did you get started? Who inspired you?
I first became interested in glass art as a child when my mother taught me to make mosaics. Several years ago, I decided to explore and grow my glass art skills. I stared making mosaics again, learned to work in stain glass and then how to fuse glass. I love to combine my glass pieces with wire wrapping. I love to experiment endlessly with different glass and different techniques.
What is your favorite part of what you do?
Coming up a new beautiful creation.
What is the least favorite part of your maker process?
Making the same piece over and over again.
What does a day in the life look like?
I work 2-4 hours a day with glass. Usually play with a design until I am happy with both the concept and the mechanics of making it. Then I set up to make a series of pieces. Usually then I make the whole series in a step wise process: cutting all the pieces in a series, putting the all pieces together then finishing them.
What do you enjoy doing when you are not busy making?
Spending time with family, volunteering, traveling, teaching, going to the gym, reading and gardening.
